Introducing Tsehay Dobamo - Thanks to her leadership, her SHG is thriving!

Tsehay is the Chairwoman of her Self Help Group,  (SHG) found in Tembaro Woreda, Kembata Tembaro Zone. The name of the group is ‘Leinam’ which means “We will grow/expand” in the local language.  Much like its name, this SHG has grown remarkably under Tsehay’s leadership and managed to save over 100,000 Ethiopian birr (about $3000) so far. More than 30% of this money is profit from the businesses the women invest in and interest from loans they give out. When Tsehay’s group started, the members were only saving 3 birr each per week, then gradually increased to 5 birr and now 10 birr per week. Tsehay has done a remarkable job organizing her group as the Chairperson and proved the power of a woman given the opportunity of leadership. We can’t wait to see the many ways Tsehay and her group will keep growing. Stay tuned to hear some of the uplifting stories of Tsehay’s group members (pictured below) in the next couple of weeks, further testimony to her leadership!

Thanks to your support, WEEMA will continue to invest in our SHGs by providing valuable skills training and will keep expanding our network of SHGs to reach even more women.
