Almaz Gebretsadik found her passion for entrepreneurship in her SHG!

Introducing Almaz Gebretsadik, who has ambitious plans to grow her SHG.

Almaz is the Head Secretary of her Self Help Group (SHG). At first, she took on the secretary role simply expecting to help with the  organizational tasks of her group. But as soon as she started learning about business and seeing the investment potential of her group members, she knew she wanted to do more. Almaz was inspired to grow the profits of the group so she started encouraging her fellow SHG members to explore different business opportunities. Today, Almaz’s SHG “Leinam” is one of the most robust SHGs supported by WEEMA with more than 100,000 ETB (about $3,000) in savings. When asked about her experience in the SHG, Almaz says she “fell in love with business and savings because of this group”. In the near future, Almaz has many ambitious dreams. She says she wants the group to save up and open a kindergarten school for their children and start new businesses with coffee, ginger, and animal fattening.
