WEEMA staff member helps collect some honey with the beekeepers!

Six WEEMA supported beekeeping cooperatives have harvested close to two thousand lbs of honey in 2021 alone. Our team was excited to receive this report upon our most recent visit to the beekeepers of Tembaro. Additionally, more than 100 beekeepers have been trained with the skillset to use modern beekeeping techniques which will exponentially increase their harvest.

But wait, there’s more! The beekeepers have joined together to create a union. Organizing into a union enables the beekeepers to sell their honey under a collective brand which will command a higher price in the market. The union members have also trained 170+ beekeepers in modern harvesting techniques.

WEEMA finds traditional beekeepers and trains them on modern beekeeping methods and now the union members are passing on these skills by similarly training new beekeepers. The union members have big dreams for the future.

By working together, they are increasing their productivity and profitability.
