WEEMA leads the way in digital healthcare!

WEEMA staff member demonstrates mobile health application to local health workers.

The Ethiopian Minister of Health has recently been digitizing healthcare systems, especially in rural Ethiopia. The current paper-based system can be bureaucratic and inefficient.  The digital systems will ultimately increase accuracy, efficiency and reach for health care providers. Thousands of health workers are learning how to use a new mobile application for patient registration and diagnosis. We have been an active part of this initiative by leading the national rollout of an online platform that gathers important health information. This system will help get a more accurate understanding of the overall health of communities.

We will be the first to pilot test the application for patient diagnosis and treatment. So far, a lot of work has been done training health workers and registering thousands of families, which will help long term in compiling data and identifying trends. Now, we’re excited for this next phase, which will involve patient diagnosis and treatment. This is a long awaited and exciting step for the digital health field in Ethiopia. We are honored to not only take part but help lead this digital revolution that will make quality healthcare more accessible for Ethiopians.
