Students take a stand against gender based violence

Students in local high school gather to discuss prevention of gender-based violence in their communities.

Young people are an important part of raising awareness on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse as well as gender-based violence (GBV). By investing in clubs in middle and high schools where students learn about these topics and discuss how they can make their communities safer. In deeply patriarchal societies such as Ethiopia, sexual exploitation and GBV can be found in traditional practices that have been passed down for generations.

These conversations are important, now more than ever, as the people of Kembata-Tembaro recently drafted bylaws to prevent gender-based violence in their communities.

When you invest in educating young people on these topics, they grow up and shape their communities for the better.
