Women Now Have Access to Prenatal Ultrasounds in Central Ethiopia

Ultrasounds are essential for the well-being of both mother and child. More mothers in the communities we serve now have access to obstetric ultrasounds at their local health centers. Neonatal ultrasounds monitor a baby's health and development and detect potential complications early in pregnancy, allowing mothers and health workers to make informed decisions that can lead to safer deliveries and healthier outcomes for both mother and child.

We met Mehiret at her local healthcare center– she had just received an ultrasound and happily agreed to share her experience with us.

"We (pregnant mothers) are eager to hear about our baby's health while we are pregnant. As a mother of four children, this is the first time I have ever had an ultrasound. I am so grateful for the ultrasounds and the midwives. I didn’t have any ultrasounds for my previous four pregnancies, and I was always worried about my child’s health.”

Ultrasounds at local health centers provide essential medical services and instill a sense of reassurance and care among pregnant women like Mehiret.

“I am grateful that I had three ultrasounds throughout this pregnancy. Thankfully, I am feeling healthy. The midwives are caring and compassionate, and I have felt well cared for throughout my pregnancy. I also attended a pregnant woman’s symposium, and learned about preparing for a healthy delivery and early infant care. I feel prepared for my child’s birth.”

Mehiret’s story shines a light on the importance of accessible obstetric ultrasound services and empathetic support for the lives of mothers and their babies.
