It makes me the most proud to show that women and mothers can also lead offices! I want more women to hold similar positions in the future! So, I’m also hoping to design more projects for women, especially for mothers so they’re not solely dependent on their husbands.

“Your leadership is the leadership of all mothers and women in our community! It is our leadership!”

These were the words of the proud elderly women and mothers of Hodo Kebele to Tsehaynesh Keamso when she was appointed to be the First Female Chairperson of Hodo Kebele, also making her the first and only female chairperson in all 24 kebeles of Tembaro Woreda. Tsehaynesh was born and raised in Hodo Kebele where she first finished her primary schooling.  Tsehaynesh later worked with the Children and Women’s Affair Office in her Kebele, an experience she says helped her get to where she is today. She is also a member of a WEEMA supported SHG where she serves as a leader to her community and fellow members. Tsehaynesh is a champion for young girls and women to complete their education which is why she is advocating to extend the local school which was only 9-10th grade to include 11-12th grade. Tsehaynesh said she wants women who had to quit school for marriage to be able to continue their schooling which is something she advocates for in her community.

WEEMA is excited to see such bold female leaders as Tsehaynesh break the glass ceilings of their community!
