Happy International Youth Day!

Today is International Youth Day! Celebrating youth is celebrating the future of Ethiopia and the world at large. Of Ethiopia’s population of 105 million people, two thirds are below the age of 25 and 30% are youth aged 15-29. When it comes to Africa, 60% of the African population is under the age of 25, thus making Africa the world’s youngest continent. It is clear that young people hold the future of Ethiopia and Africa in their hands. This is why youth-inclusive programming is essential in the work that WEEMA does. 

Some of our work that specifically targets youth include building public libraries that particularly benefit primary and secondary school students, providing computers for technology centers in rural high-schools in Kembata Tembaro and providing menstrual hygiene tools and training for young girls to destigmatize menstruation. 

WEEMA will continue to strengthen our youth-targeted programming especially within reproductive health and inclusive education. We hope you join us in this meaningful investment in tomorrow’s generation.
