Gratitude Tuesday: A Note from Our Executive Director
Today is Giving Tuesday and I am sure your inboxes are overflowing with requests for donations. As I reflect back over the past year, it has been challenging for all of us. I am full of gratitude for your continued support of WEEMA’s work, despite the difficulties. Therefore, I would like to take today to celebrate you, our supporters. Together, we accomplished a lot and that fills me with hope for the future.
One of our long time partners sent me this email that I wanted to share with you. Dr. Anteneh is in charge of the Mudula hospital. He is innovative, hard working and resourceful. He is used to stretching his limited resources to benefit the community of Mudula. With your support, he has created an environment that offers exceptional medical care to the community in Mudula despite rural conditions. Every time I visit, I am awed by what is being accomplished there.
Dr. Anteneh’s response to COVID was yet another exercise to ensure limited resources provided the greatest impact. We asked for your help this past spring to fight COVID in Ethiopia, and you delivered. Here is what Dr. Anteneh had to say about this support:
“WEEMA is an organization determined to uplift the communities. WEEMA was the first NGO to reach and help us in our COVID-19 fight. Before anyone else, they started educating the community on hand hygiene, social-distancing and face mask utilization using mass media and promotion on market days. Not only awareness creation, they have also donated water tankers, face masks, infrared thermometers and PPE. This has made an incredible difference in our fight. Thanks WEEMA for being a part of the frontline team, like always, in our fight. Weema ekiye!” (Be full! in Tembarsa).
So today, let’s celebrate you, our donors, with Gratitude Tuesday. I am so grateful and honored that you choose to support our work. We cannot do this work without you.
With Gratitude,
Liz McGovern
