Digital Health Innovation Extends to COVID

“I would say the app is like an ‘office-less doctor’ who would manage everything there-off. Moreover, it increased my confidence…As a result, many mothers are bringing their children to our health post looking for better treatment through the mobile application.”

- Fikire, Health Extension Worker, Belela Health Post

WEEMA is a proud implementing partner of the Ethiopian Ministry of Health for its electronic community health information system (eCHIS). The eCHIS is a digital platform that supports Health Extension Workers (HEWs) who are Ethiopia’s frontline community health workers in rural and semi-urban communities. The video below highlights  how our work in digital health got started and  features our first pilot mobile application assisting in maternal and child health.

In this day and age of COVID, WEEMA is happy to be part of the essential work being done to support HEWs through digital health. Training and equipping HEWs with eCHIS will also prepare them to soon use a COVID-prevention package that the government is preparing as part of the eCHIS tool. August 26th is our first round of training since the pandemic started where 60+ HEWs will be trained in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, regional health bureau and the zonal health department.
