Year-End Faces of Hope: Inclusion is a Cornerstone of WEEMA's Work
As the end of the year approaches, we need your support now more than ever! 2020 has brought many challenges with increased need from our communities and the cancellation of our biggest annual fundraiser, both due to COVID. That is why a donation in any amount will make a real impact in our communities.
Inclusion is a cornerstone of WEEMA’s work. We believe that educating all children leads to them realizing their full potential. Our work includes raising awareness about the rights and value of people with disabilities.
A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated International Day of People with Disabilities in Tembaro. In Ethiopia, people with disabilities can face tremendous stigma. The purpose of the celebration was to raise awareness about the unlimited potential of people with disabilities. Especially when given access to education, economic and leadership opportunities. We are so excited to share some of the outcomes with you!
Experts with disabilities from Addis Ababa University attended the event and shared their stories with the community, inspiring children, parents, teachers and others.
Thanks to the celebration and related awareness raising campaign, parents of children with disabilities that have been kept hidden at home brought them to school to register them for classes. Happy tears!
The district and zone offices celebrated hiring people with disabilities to educate the community further on the fact that people with disabilities can work and be productive parts of society when given the opportunity.
You made this possible! Your support enables us to bring in experts that raise awareness, broaden understanding and change lives. Your donations have real impact and we are so grateful.
