Recently, our staff visited Hambo Primary School in the town of Durame, where last year, we expanded our Inclusive Education program. Interventions at the school focused on renovating and creating a new Inclusive Education Resource Room, furnishing the room with furniture, books, and materials, building ramps to accommodate students with physical disabilities and intensive sign-language training for teachers and staff.

When our team arrived, they were warmly greeted in sign language by students and teachers. Our staff was thrilled to see everyone signing and communicating in sign language, and learned that the school has implemented a weekly sign language day, where students and teachers communicate solely using sign language on that day! The school is deeply invested in learning and improving their sign language skills to make the school more inclusive for all students.

Currently, approximately 100 students with physical disabilities are registered at Hambo School. Teachers and staff continue to reach out to the community, speaking with and encouraging families to enroll their children with disabilities in school.
