Meet Tagesech Deyaso, Mudula Primary School's Facilitator in the Inclusive Resource Center
July is Disability Pride Month, and we are celebrating by highlighting some amazing people in the communities we serve.
Meet Tagesech Deyaso, Mudula Primary School’s expert facilitator in the Inclusive Resource Center for students with special needs. Tagesech’s smile is warm and inviting to her students, and it’s clear that she is deeply invested in the education and wellbeing of children and adults with disabilities in her community. She graduated with a degree in Special Needs Education in 2015, and has been working at Mudula Primary School ever since.
Tagesech shared: “...eight years ago, there were no students with disabilities in the classroom, but when the Inclusive Education Project started in 2019, everything changed. I finally saw students with different disabilities in our school. Teachers and staff are trained in inclusive education, sign language, and braille. We’ve invested a lot of time talking with the community about the importance of education for all children, and have searched for children with disabilities. Luckily, we found many children that were hidden at home, but would now have the chance to attend school for the first time in their lives. We even have adults with disabilities enrolled! Our resource center is well-equipped with materials and resources for students with disabilities, including a television, sound recorder, and assistive devices. The school compound, including the bathroom is accessible for all students. Now, students with disabilities attend class without barriers!
Since 2019 WEEMA has been deeply invested in addressing equal access to quality education for children with disabilities, making school child-friendly and accessible for all. Over the next three years, we will continue to support eight schools in the Tembaro district and establish a new inclusive school in our neighboring district of Durame.
